Review of Soap & Glory's "Hand Food"

Soap and Glory Hand Food Hand Cream

I’ve always wanted to try out Soap & Glory products, and was super excited when Sephora in the US started selling them! I picked up the travel size “Hand Food” hand cream to try out, because I’m a wee bit obsessed with hand creams and always have to have one by me at all times! lol. The packaging is super pink and adorable (as is all Soap & Glory packaging). It contains shea butter, macadamia, and marshmallow. A lot of reviews of this cream said it was amazing at moisturizing but that the floral scent was overpowering. I agree somewhat…the scent of this cream is pretty strong (and floral), but I have used stronger scented hand creams before from Bath & Body Works. If you don’t like floral scents (or strong scents for that matter) then you may want to skip this product I personally love the scent, though I wish it were a tad bit toned down.

The cream itself is lovely! Super moisturizing, and long lasting as well. I was a little concerned when I first applied it because it seemed thinner than I thought it would be, so I figured it wouldn’t be very moisturizing. I was wrong, though! This cream keeps my hands moisturized for a while, and it has a silky texture once it has absorbed into the skin, which makes it much less greasy compared to thicker creams.

I will definitely be trying out more products from Soap & Glory! Have you guys tried any of their products? Any suggestions? :-)

Lush Flying Fox Shower Gel Review

While I was at Lush last week picking up some Caca Noir Henna, I decided I would also try some shower gel since I had just ran out of the one I was using. The only other shower gel I had tried from Lush was Snow Fairy…and that was a long time ago. I took one whiff of Flying Fox and knew it would be coming home with me!

This shower gel contains the scent of jasmine, ylang, cypress and palmarosa. I love the smell of jasmine, and also the smell of honey…so this is perfect for me. It reminds me very much of the Godiva shampoo bar, which also had a jasmine scent to it. The scent is so relaxing and is great for aromatherapy and stress-relief. What I love most about this shower gel is that you can actually smell it on your skin for a while when you get out of the shower. Usually, that is the main gripe I have with a lot of body wash or soaps that I use…the smell just fades away. Needless to say, I was sniffing my arm a lot after I first used it. haha! Unfortunately, its a little bit pricey (which is the only downside). I got the middle size, which is $17.95 for 8.4 fl oz. Its totally worth it though, in my opinion, especially if you love jasmine scents as much as I do! It also comes in a smaller size for $9.95 and a larger size for $27.95. They actually have a perfume that is very close to this scent called “Lust”, and I want it so bad!

Pick up “Flying Fox” at Lush.com or Amazon.com!

Birchbox #3 (July 2011)

And now for my July Birchbox! I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to get this birchbox as quickly as I could have. The USPS was supposed to deliver it Saturday, but decided my package wasn’t important enough I guess and didn’t even come to my door (the tracking said “attempted delivery” and “notice left”, but no such thing happened!). Luckily, I called the post office and they delivered it to me the following day =)

This month’s Birchbox consists of products that are favorites of a designer named Cynthia Rowley, whom I had never heard of previously. I did quite like this month’s box, although I think June’s box has been my favorite so far.

Zoya polish in “Shay”
The star of this box, in my opinion, was the mini Zoya nail-polish in “Shay”! Although I would really have preferred a color that was a little different from the ones I already have (I have one by Sephora by OPI called “Nonfat Soy Half-Caff” that seems similiar), its still a pretty nude color that I’m able to wear to work, so that’s a plus! I will be wearing it for my next “Nails of the Week” post this weekend.

Redken Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist
I’m glad that I received a hair product that was a bit different that the ones I already have. Although I’m currently using John Frieda’s Shine Shock, it is a product that is to be used on wet hair like many of the other products I have. This, however, is a shine spray that is supposed to be used on dry hair. Since it is a spray, I thought it would be very sticky on my hair and end up making it feel like I had sprayed hairspray, but it didn’t! It leaves my hair remaining soft, and it adds shine as well. Don’t go too spray-happy as I tend to do, though, or it will weigh down your hair.

 Ahava Mineral Hand Cream
I’m about up to my knees in hand creams and body lotions right now (including another AHAVA one I had gotten in my May Birchbox), but I’m quite alright with that! I love hand creams, and I like to have one with me at all times (which is why the travel size is perfect). I also like this one much better than the lotion I got in May. For some reason, the way it leaves my hands feels exactly like Fortune Cookie Soap’s Whipped Creams, which is really nice. Anyone else that has used both products feel the same way? The scent is also very pleasant and clean-smelling.

philosophy purity made simple, one-step facial cleanser
I would have been ecstatic to receive this product a month ago, but since starting my new skincare routine (and having virtually no breakouts!), I really don’t want to mess anything up by trying something new on my skin. Since its so small, I think I may save this for a vacation where I have to travel by plane, since it would fit the under 3oz regulation. It would also be convenient in that scenario because its supposed to be a makeup remover and a cleanser in one, which would cut down on products.

Almond and Apricot by Kind Bars
This isn’t a makeup product, but I’ll review it here since it was included in my Birchbox. I eat a granola bar almost everyday, so this was a nice treat to have! Its so delicious too! Very sweet, like eating a candy bar…except its good for you. Unfortunately, these are kind of pricey when I looked on Amazon to get them (with shipping it was close to $25 for a pack of 12) so I can’t say I’ll be eating these yummy bars often.

If you would like to sign up for Birchbox but have not yet done so, I would be extremely grateful if you could use my referral link! As a thank you for doing so, I will feature your blog or youtube channel in a post as well as give you FIVE extra entries in a current or future giveaway!

Jun 27

I I absolutely love trying out handmade bath and body products (and also candles or homecare products), so I’ve decided to start a new section called “I

The company I’m going to review today is called “Pink Bow Bath Boutique“. Their products are absolutely adorably packaged in black containers with a little pink bow around each jar. Their products range from creams and soaps to fragrances and hair products. *Please note that because Etsy shops usually make things in small batches, that some of these products or scents might not be available at the moment. Almost always, you should be able to email the seller directly and have them make you a product in your requested scent. :)

They have a huge selection of lotions and body creams, but the first thing that caught my eye was one of the featured products called “Lemon Buttercream Cupcakes Whipped Body Frosting“. Now if that doesn’t sound like something I want to eat, I don’t know what does. I have quite a love for lemon scents (and desserts), and I’m always on the lookout for ones that don’t smell too reminiscent of a certain popular wood polishing product. Luckily, this one smelled as delicious as it sounded! Its a very light cream (so not heavy like a body butter) and sinks into the skin very easily. I used it after I showered, and my legs still felt moisturized several hours later (not to mention I smelled like a cupcake!). I also received a little sample of this in another scent called “Banana Buttercream”, which smells delicious as well.

But the second product I got, the Brown Sugar Buttercream Crunch Cake Goats Milk Soap (whew that was a mouthful!), was the real winner. I could smell it the second I opened my package. First of all, the bar is huge. It would barely fit in my soap dish haha. And the smell is so incredibly delicious…it smells like sugary maple and vanilla. The smell also filled my entire bathroom by just sitting in the soap dish. That alone would rate high on my scale of soaps, but the actual product itself blew me away. I’ve used a ton of soaps (um…I’m obsessed) and despite being good they’ve all left my skin feeling very “squeaky clean” and not moisturized at all. When I rinsed this soap off, however, I was surprised that my skin was actually soft. I actually kept standing in the water thinking that I hadn’t rinsed it all off, but I had. I’ve always wanted to try goat’s milk soap for this very reason, and I’m glad I finally did. This bar also has a top layer of exfoliating sugar, which is a huge plus!

I did purchase one more product, the Sugary Body Polish in Cherry Mist, but the reason I haven’t used (or opened) it yet is because its going to be part of my first giveaway! (along with some other goodies!). More details on the giveaway will be in the next post, so stay tuned.

These products were purchased by me, and these reviews are based on my own personal experience. I do not have any affiliation with Pink Bow Bath Boutique and am not getting paid to review these products. Images belong to Pink Bow Bath Boutique, and are used with permission.
